My first cell phone screen "incident" happened when my iPhone 4 fell out of the pocket of my maternity pants and on to the hard tile floor of the ASU Engineering department restroom. The phone enclosure was dented in the fall and the screen was cracked to almost useless. I was pretty lucky up to that point and lived life fast-and-loose with no case and no screen protector. Fast forward thirteen years with two kids later, and now I am the person who orders the screen protector and case at the same time that I order the new device — leave no cell phone or tablet behind!

I am responsible for the "device safety" of my iPhone and Samsung Galaxy, the iPads and iPhones that my sons use, and my mom's iPhone and iPad. Here are the cases and screen protectors that have made it through backpacks, purses, vacations, and school buses... and our own general clumsiness (such as when I drop-threw my iPhone 15 Pro a week ago while on a walk to check my mail.)

Screen Protectors

I have been using (and gifting) Ailun brand screen protectors since 2016. They're easy to apply to the phone or tablet, and they're made of tempered glass so they feel like a quality screen, not plastic. They're inexpensive too — a three pack is usually less than ten bucks!

In the eight years that I've been using these, I've removed plenty of intensely-cracked screen protectors and found the screen underneath in pristine condition.

The phone in the title image on this article is my son's iPhone 13 Mini with the screen protector I took off this past December, showing the intact screen underneath. He had been using that screen protector for several months, bringing his iPhone to school. The animated GIF directly above is from my other son's iPhone 13 Mini, last month.

iPhone Cases

When I bought my iPhone 15, I wanted a case that would compliment and not cover up the titanium enclosure on the iPhone, so I found and ordered this MagSafe case from Alphex. I've been incredibly pleased with the case durability - as I mentioned earlier, I've dropped this iPhone 15 outside on pavement while walking... multiple times... and my iPhone and case are still going strong. Alphex has a series of MagSafe cases made to color match the iPhone 15 titanium cases.

My other favorite for both Android and iPhone cases are from Spigen. My husband has had good success with this transparent Spigen case for his iPhone 15 pro which at the time of this writing is on sale for $19.99.
