All of the Decipher Tools software looks in the iTunes backup folder for iPhone/iPad backups automatically. If you would like to read backups from another location, such as an external drive or another folder on the computer, you can add more locations to look for iPhone backup locations.
To import a single iPhone Backup from another location:
Click Preferences > Custom Backup Locations > Add Single Backup.
Select the folder that is the iPhone backup. The original names for these folders are usually the device identifier and sometimes the device identifier followed by a date and time. (The two letter folders inside of a backup are file organization of parts of the backup, and these should not be selected as a single backup.)
Close and re-open the program for the backup to be read in.
To import a folder of multiple iPhone backups from another location:
Click Preferences > Custom Backup Locations > Add Folder of Multiple Backups.
Select the folder where you have more iPhone backups. For example, if you have two backups stored in an external drive
E:\Copied Backups\My Backup 1and
E:\Copied Backups\My Backup 2, you'll want to select
E:\Copied Backupsas your custom backup folder to look in.
Close and re-open the program for the change to take effect.
Note that in older versions of the software, there was only an option "Add Custom Backup Location". That option is the same as "Add Folder of Multiple Backups."
